Drilling Equipment – Components and Machineries

Drilling equipment is the composite of components and machineries used in drilling oil. Also included in the mix are the other types which are used in finding and locating oil. Used with other sensitive gravity meters can help detect oil flow and magnetic fields of the earth.

The equipment used for drilling is also known as oilfield parts to perform seismic surveys and shock waves. One type is the compressed air guns that shoot pulses of air into the water for explorations over the water.

Other equipments

Another are the thumper trucks used fro drilling by way of slamming heavy palates into the ground for exploration over the land. The last one is the explosives inserted into the ground by drilling for exploration over land or taking it over water and detonated.

This is Equipment that is able to detect the smell of hydro carbons with the help of sensitive electronic noses that are known as sniffers. The drilling parts make use of seismology by the creation of shock waves which can pass through hidden rock layers and making sense of the series of waves which are reflected to the surface of the earth.

Oil extraction

The various many drilling equipment for drilling include the crown and crown blocks at the rig’s apex, the traveling block draw works, sand pipe, engine, fuel or waster tanks, swivel, rotary hose, turn table, pipe rack, conductor pipes, bore hole, bit, drill pipe, mud pit and mud pumps.

These components are moved to locations in trucks which are specially provided for the purpose. The drill job is helped by a rig that is leveled over the main boring hole.

It also comprises the mast or derrick hauled over the sub structure and others like the engines, pumps, and the hoisting and rotating equipment aligned and connected. The drill collars and drill pipe are stretched out on the racks, laid out so the workers can pick them out and bring them where they are needed.

The process

Once there is an oil strike, the location is marked out the by GPS coordinates on land and water (with marker buoys).

The equipment is made on sedimentary rocks that are porous. These are the rocks that are easy to drill and trap the hydrocarbons in smaller areas. The oil pump is set for the Drilling job when a geologist gets an idea of the proper conditions that can occur.

The drilling of oil with the use of oilfield equipment is a process that involves a series of steps. These include placement of the drilling bit in the hole with the collar and the drilling pipe. The turntable and the Kelly are attached for drilling.

The oil equipments help in the circulation of mud through the pipe and out of the bit fro floating the rock cuttings outside the hole. As the hole gets deeper, new sections or joints in drilling are added in the pipes.

Once the present depth is reached, the pipe is removed. These are some of the more important parts of the drilling equipment in use in the industry today.

Mining Equipment Auctions – Price Determinants

The mining industry also regards the equipments and the machinery as the lifeblood of the mining industry. It allows projects, increase production, and boost profits. The process of buying and selling equipments in mining equipment auctions is not that hard either.

However, in auctions especially, whether buying or selling, there are more things to consider than just age or condition of the merchandise. You would know that a lot is at stake even if it is just one excavator, bulldozer or a dump truck.

Here are some factors affecting pricing.

The law of supply and demand

This one governs all business deals and certainly affects the pricing. When demand is up, or when supply is down, the prices rise. If there’s a glut, the prices go down.

As a seller, you can have buyers in areas where the supply is low and demand is high. As a buyer, you can go around and buy from places where there is an oversupply of equipments at lower prices than you expect.

Economic climate

Economic conditions will also have an impact on supply and demand and the resulting price of merchandise (mining equipment) and its price. When the economy is in a downturn, everyone watches the bottom line closely.

At this stage, they are less willing to pay higher prices for the equipment. At the same time, the need for equipment goes down and more companies will sell their under-utilized equipment and turning into a buyer’s market.

These factors are usually out of the control of buyers and sellers. However, when demand is high in one place, it is low elsewhere. Tapping into these regions or industries of high supply and low demand can be a smart move.

Manufacturer

There are now many manufacturers of equipments out there, but a few dominate the market. Many people will only buy from one or two particular makes of equipment. Brand loyalty is reflected in annual sales of new and used equipment around the world.

There are reasons why people would pay more for a name brand. Either they had good results with it, and trust it, have a good relationship and history with the dealer or the name itself often simply implies quality.

Models / features

Standard models are easier to sell than specialized pieces of equipments. Specialized equipments (like those in mining for instance) need to be offered to the biggest audience possible. The features and attachments can have a significant effect on the equipment’s selling price.

A feature may appeal to one buyer and is not favored by the other. If you are selling, it is important to reach to a large pool of potential buyers.

Age / condition

This is the generally the most frequent question being asked when buying an equipment. In short, age is an important determining factor of price. As it ages, it also depreciates along.

In another context, an equipment piece fetches a poor price if it is in poor condition, regardless of its age. Older but well-maintained equipments (including its appearance) can sell better. These are some of the factors that determine prices in mining equipment auctions.
